Welcome
to SC Reptiles - Iguanas, this site is dedicated to the captive care and breeding of
Fiji Island Iguanas and Rhinoceros Iguanas. These two species of
iguanas are top of my list of favourite lizards. My
collection
is very small, a single pair of each species, but hopefully this will
expand.
The Fiji Island Banded
Iguana (Brachylophus Fasciatus)
is a fairly
small iguana at 8 inches
snout to vent length. They are tree dwellers, very rarely venturing
to the ground. Their stunning green, blue and yellow colouration is
a very effective camouflage, I have known visitors to my house to spend
many minutes trying to find the iguanas in the vivariums. These
beautiful animals are unfortunately listed as endangered on their native
islands and are not often seen in the pet trade. This is a shame as
they make excellent pets, being small, relatively hardy, easy to handle,
friendly, very inquisitive and intelligent.
The Rhinoceros Iguana
(Cyclura Cornuta Cornuta) is a truly impressive, prehistoric
looking lizard. They are the heavy weights of the Iguana world,
large males can achieve 10kg and
22 inches
snout to vent length.
These large diurnal animals are listed
a vulnerable in their native Haiti and Dominican Republic home. In
the UK this species is rarely seen in the pet trade, however in the USA
they are more commonly available. Indeed my pair was originally bred
in the Zoo of the Dominican Republic, and imported into Europe. I
have found these iguanas to be placid, good natured and easily tamed, and
as long as consideration is given to the eventual size of their large
vivarium, they make wonderful, long lived pets.

Other animals in my collection are dogs, newts, frogs, toads, tortoises
and a stunning collection of Royal Python Morphs
and a pair of
Blue
Tree Monitor Lizards and and collection of
Leopard
Gecko Morphs I am very
proud of my collection and place every effort in the care and welfare of
all the animals.
I hope you enjoy this web
site. It was created entirely by myself and will be regularly updated so
please keep revisiting.
